What Does It Mean? or The Joys of Suburban Life

So, this morning I took the recycling out to the curb and noticed a plastic grocery bag next to our mailbox. When I picked it up, it became immediately obvious that it contained dog poop. Nice.

Now, we have a fenced yard, so our dogs remain confined to our yard most of the time. We do walk them also, but because we have two dogs it requires two people and 99.99% of the time I'm one of them. So, I know that we are not leaving doggy deposits around the neighborhood that might prompt an irritated neighbor to relocate said deposit back to our yard. But does someone think we do? Or, was this a comment unrelated to our dogs and directed more at us?

I'm baffled. And a bit irritated. And, honestly, kind of creeped out. What do you think?

  1. Its strange because I understand that it is proper courtesy to pick up the poop, but some people are ultra sensitive and will go on a witch hunt to find "offenders." I would be creeped out by it. I was actually verbally attacked by two people in my old neighborhood when after using two bags for my ONE cocker spaniel, could not physically pick up a piece that was literally the size of a pea. They told me I was irresponsible, bringing down the neighborhood, and had no respect. Don't take personal offense- these people are likely bored. I even know someone who will CIRCLE the offense on the sidewalk with chalk.

  2. It is weird, but it could also just be an accident. My uncle has been known to scoop in in the bag and since it is bagged stick it in a pocket if he has a jacket on (I know, gross, but he has done it). And my aunt uses one bag to carry the scooped bag as she goes (three dogs so she goes through a few). It could just be they dropped it. It is a little creepy but hard to tell - for now I would say try to think of it as an accident.

  3. Skinny Muffin and Amy, You're both right. I think I was so unnerved this morning that I didn't even consider the possibility that it was an accident. (That's sad.) In our neighborhood, the mailbox is where you leave things for people- phone books, canned goods collection bags, etc, so I automatically went to "somebody left me something." Thanks for being the voices of reason. :) Breathe in, breathe out....

  4. I'm guessing someone was just lazy. They bagged it up, but didn't want to carry it home and figured trash day was soon, you'd just put it in with yours.
