Better Sweet Potatoes

Nobody in my house is a fan of sweet potatoes. They are just too darn sweet! But despite the general lack of enthusiasm, I continue to try sweet potato recipes we'll like (or at least eat) because they are so darn good for you. These were so-so with the kids, but I really enjoyed them. The sweet is balanced with spicy and everything is enhanced by a little salt. This just made it to my top two favorite sweet potato recipes- and of the two, this one's actually pretty healthy. I followed Becks' recipe for Chili Roasted Sweet Potato Wedges which you can find here at Delish. She's got better pictures and the full (but still easy!) directions, so go check it out!

  1. I like the idea from your previous post about the dipping sauce....I just hate spending so much money on fresh basil right now! Can't wait to get the gardens in this spring, but for now that homegrown basil is a long way off! (I am currently re-reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle....so good!)

  2. Farmgirl Cyn, You are right. Basil is crazy expensive in winter. I happened to luck out several days ago and get a deal. Fresh basil can't be beat!

  3. I'm not a huge fan of sweet potatoes myself for the same reason (so, so sweet!), but this might appeal. I'm always looking for ways to try this vitamin powerhouse that might help me eat it.

    Thanks!

  4. I am so with you and your family on sweet potatoes being too sweet. When I mention this to people they share recipes they swear aren't sweet but then contain lots of sugar or sweet things like apples. We have found we like them just roasted with salt and a little olive oil. We'll have to give the chili roasted ones a try.

  5. Leah, I am right there with you on sweet potatoes- I should eat them, but how?!

Marcella, would you believe it didn't occur to me to try them with just olive oil and salt? That's exactly how I'll do the next one I pick up. Thanks for the tip!
